EU Demands Resumption of Talks to Halt Iran’s Nuclear Program
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas called for the immediate resumption of talks aimed at halting Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Kallas emphasized the need for renewed cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stressing that Europe was ready to assist in facilitating the discussions.
"Any threats to pull out of the non-proliferation treaty don’t help to lower tensions. This is what I told Abbas Araghchi (Iran’s foreign minister) today," she wrote on X.
Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, announced on Saturday that Tehran would deny entry to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi. This came after a brutal 12-day conflict that began on June 13, when Israel launched airstrikes targeting Iranian military, nuclear, and civilian sites. The attacks resulted in at least 606 fatalities and 5,332 injuries, as reported by Iran’s Health Ministry.
In response, Iran launched missile and drone strikes, killing at least 29 people and injuring more than 3,400, according to data from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The violence subsided following a US-brokered ceasefire that was implemented on June 24.
