Algeria condemns Israeli attacks on Iran

(MENAFN) Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf spoke with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on Monday, reaffirming Algeria’s strong condemnation of the recent Israeli strikes on Iran. Attaf labeled the attacks as “aggression” and stressed the urgent need for the UN Security Council to intervene in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.

Earlier, Algeria’s Foreign Ministry accused Israel of pursuing a policy that jeopardizes regional security by prioritizing its own interests at the expense of its neighbors, starting with the Palestinians and extending to other countries in the region.

During the call, Araghchi updated Attaf on the aftermath of the Israeli airstrikes, highlighting the ongoing threat they pose to stability and security across the Middle East, according to the Algerian Foreign Ministry.

The conversation followed coordinated Israeli air raids targeting key Iranian infrastructure, including a uranium enrichment site in Natanz, and the assassination of several senior military commanders and nuclear scientists. In retaliation, Iran launched dozens of ballistic missiles into Israel.

The strikes have also drawn strong criticism from other African nations. South Africa, which has accused Israel of genocide over its military actions in Gaza, condemned the attacks on Iranian territory as serious violations of sovereignty and territorial integrity. Egypt described the operation as a dangerously escalatory move and a clear breach of international norms.

Meanwhile, Sudan’s transitional government has ordered the immediate evacuation of its citizens from Iran. Prime Minister Kamil Idriss gave the directive after a phone call with Sudan’s ambassador to Tehran, Abdel Aziz Hassan Salih. Sudan previously condemned Israel’s actions against Iran, calling them a grave threat to global peace and security.
